Dale was born October 6, 1927 in Iowa and grew up on a farm near Newton, Iowa.  He graduated from Newton High School and farmed with his brother.  Dale decided to join the Army National Guard in 1951. His Guard unit was called to active duty and soon found himself on the front line in the Korea war.  His unit was involved in a great amount of action.  Dale, as an Army cook like to say he spent his time in Korea with a cooking spoon in one hand and an M1 rifle in the other.  Soon he was promoted to Sargent and after his return to Iowa he began farming again and met a wonderful lady, Helene.  They were married on September 12,1954 and together they have three children and four grandchildren.
In 1961 they decided to leave Iowa farming and move to Arizona where he became a State Farm Insurance Agent in Chandler for over 25 successful years.  In 1995 they moved to Sun Lakes and retired that same year.

During his business years Dale was an active Kiwanian and in Sun Lakes, he was invited by Rotarian Bob Murray to join Sun Lakes Rotary Club on December 1, 1997.  He enjoyed being a Rotarian which has allowed him to become involved in the Club Foundation Committee and the Annual Foundation Dinner, delivering the Splash Newspaper as a fundraiser, the 3rd Grade Dictionary project and most of all the Rotary friendship with the club members.

Dale’s family asked that in his memory a donation be made to the Rotary International Polio eradication program through this website: www.endpolio.org/donate

Dale will be missed by family, friends, and the Rotary world.
