AZ Water Supply
Charlie Ester is the Director of Water Supply at the Salt River Project (SRP). SRP is a water and power utility founded in 1903 which serves most of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Water Supply group is responsible for weather forecasting in support of power and water operations, watershed monitoring, water resource measurement, runoff forecasting, reservoir operations planning, flood emergency reservoir operations, drought preparedness, and data archiving and analytics.
Additionally, the group is responsible for aquifer management within the SRP service area and maintains a system of over 270 water supply wells.
Charlie is the past chairman of the Oak Creek Watershed Council, a member of the Healthy Headwaters leadership consortium, and promotes SRP’s Watershed Stewardship role through an expanding internal monitoring effort, a research program with Arizona’s universities and other institutions, and by participation with the Forest Service and other collaborators on various forest and watershed restoration efforts.
Charlie has been with SRP for 41-years and is a 1983 Hydrology graduate of the University of Arizona.
